Who We Are

In January of 2004, a group of kids officially became Kate's Kids 4 the CURE charter members. They met on a monthly basis to turn in funds raised. They learned to keep records, fill out bank deposit slips and count money. They made special get well cards to send to cancer patients, sold candles, worked the yard sale, etc.

Our "Charter" members were:
Allyson, Katelyn, Libby, Mackenzie, Michelle, Natalie and Vanessa. (Libby and Vanessa have since moved on to other activities, but we thank them for their contributions).

Current members are all high school students and they still meet on a monthly basis.  Each one of these kids has known the pain cancer can cause a family.  Many have lost relatives to the disease, even parents, and all have felt the frustration of watching someone they love battle for their life.  After school, these kids gather to share fund-raising ideas, turn in money raised, encourage one another and plan future events.  In 2009 they are hosting a concert with silent auction and bake sale and a golf tournament.  Watch the site for upcoming details!

Our Current Members:
Allyson, Danisha, Katelyn, Kirsten, Mackenzie, Maurisha, Michelle, Natalie, and Samantha (Sammi).  (click here for member photos)

Our Motivation

Every member of Kate's Kids has had some personal experience watching a loved one deal with the consequences of a cancer diagnosis.  They were recently asked to complete the following sentence:

"I belong to Kate's Kids 4 the CURE because . . ."  (here is what they said)

"I have been affected WAY too much by cancer in my life.  I wanted people to know that there are a LOT of things that kids can do to fight cancer." (Katelyn)

"I have lost two family members to cancer and I want to make a difference." (Mackenzie)

"My dad died from colon cancer I hated seeing him be sick and he was sick all the time and that made him crabby." (Kirsten)

"I have had family members have cancer, and one was my Uncle Richard who died.  Everyone deserves a second chance."  (Jess)

"My Aunt has breast cancer and I want to do something about it!"  (Josh)

"Because I have family members who have had cancer and I want to help doctors put it to a STOP!"
(Maurisha)

"Kate's Kids is for a really great cause.  It makes me feel good to be doing something to help.  Remember, no matter what, you can help fight this horrible disease." (Michelle)
